START LEARNING THE BASICS

Evterpi Music is here to aid your learning experience. Lessons cover the basics of music theory at a beginner level and cover the following topics.

Lesson 1, The Notes, involves learning the notes in music. It also covers accidentals (sharps and flats) and tones and semi-tones. It also contains a glossary for beginners' musical vocabularies!

Lesson 2, Stave and Clefs,  is all about the next step - understanding how the stave works, and being aware of the various clefs that exist in music.

Lesson 3, Rhythm, covers the types of note-lengths that exist, musical rests and a brief introduction to time signature.

Lesson 4, Scales, discusses the tone/semi-tone relationships of major and minor scales. It teaches how to construct a scale, and provides an overview of other types of scales such as chromatic.

Lesson 5, Building Chords, is the final lesson and combines the theory learnt in Lessons 1, 2 and 4. It goes through major, minor, augmented and diminished chords, as well as addressing the use of chord extensions. Lesson 5 also provides knowledge about the various chord symbols widely used in music.

The next module Evterpi Music looks at is Instruments. This is for those interested in a brief history of musical instruments, understanding how certain instruments work, knowing what clefs they use, and how to label them. Evterpi has pages for Drum Set, Guitar, and Piano, and can't wait to add more about many other instruments!

Quizzes contains a series of questions which cover each Lesson topic outlined above. The purpose of this is to enhance learning and allow site users to practice their music theory and have access to answers!

The Quizzes and Answers pages are only accessible for site members, but don't worry - this is completely FREE! All you have to do is visit the pages and you'll be asked to put in your email. Away you go!

For the ultimate learning experience, site members have access to a page containing Tutorial Videos. This page contains audio-visual ways of learning for those who learn better by seeing and hearing. Here, learners can listen, watch, and play along with the videos!
